I had the opportunity to meet with administrators and tour the facilities at MRMC and came away impressed. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. I had never been to Bay City, but had a really good visit.
I had been seeing my regular obgyn in Lake Jackson for an assumed ectopic pregnancy. I went to this ER about 11pm one night for extreme abdominal pain on my left side. I had assumed it was something with the ectopic and went to the closest emergency room to me (Lake Jackson is an hour away, Bay City is 30 mins away). The nurses that treated me in the er were very nice and the only problem I really had was having to repeat story numerous times (about 6 times, if not more). Had all the test done then the er doc comes in hours later to tell me I am going to have surgery to remove my tube and ovary. I was admitted. They were all ready to prep me for surgery and the on call obgyn came in to tell me he was going to remove my tube. I asked if any other procedure could be done since my husband and I still want more babies. He said no, and that that was the only way (to remove my tube and ovary). They were going to prep me for surgery at 3am. I was not comfortable with that descicon, my instincts said something was not right. I felt like I was being pressured and rushed. I know ectopic can be life threatening, but I felt if at that time it was so critical then I wouldn't have been waiting for 4 hours for surgery. I refused treatment and said I wanted a second opinion from my primary ob. The on call ob seemed very rude after I told him this. We left Bay City a little after 3am and drove to the Lake Jackson er. I was seen the next morning by my doc and had surgery later that day and, thankfully, he didn't have to remove my tube, simply cut into it and sucked the ectopic out. I'm so happy I decided to leave and get another opinion because I got to keep my tube and ovary. I will never go to this hospital again and definitely will not have any babies there.
Do not go to this hospital under any circumstances, especially if you are going for labor and delivery. The nurses are uneducated, the doctors are unprofessional and their policies are fairweather. You will regret it, trust me.
Do NOT go here under any circumstances. I delivered a baby there in 2013 and had the worst experience of my life. The nurses are perfect visions of incompetence, one nurse telling me how likely I was to die during child birth, later unable to remove the epidural line (and telling me that in the event of it breaking it would have to be surgically removed, which is NOT true, a nurse should know that ). To top it all off, a nurse broke the HIPPA law and invited HER family (without my permission ) to come and see my baby after delivery.
Not real happy hearing about my moms ER experience this morning. And she had a heart attack on October 6th in the same ER. So this is another visit and they were in no hurry to help alleviate her chest pain. I really hope she never has to return to this hospital because she felt not one person had a sense of urgency or compassion. They have got to strive to do better!!!
